Norma C. Cathcart Weygant, of the Town of Cornwall, NY a life-long area resident, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at her home in Cornwall. She was 91. The Daughter of the late Harry and Leona (Doerr) Cathcart, she was born on May 18, 1924 in Newburgh. Norma graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1941 and was active in organizing many class reunions. She also graduated from the Spencerian Business School of Newburgh in 1942, followed by employment by Prime Contractors at Stewart Field and CB & I Ship Builders in New Windsor, leaving there when she married the late George Weygant on August 31, 1943 and went with him to El Paso, TX, where he was stationed at Biggs Field. She worked at the Fort Bliss Station Hospital, and after the war, mostly in medical field including over 8 years for Dr. Thomas Crawshaw. She was a lifetime member of Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, a member of the Senior Citizens of New Windsor, United Commerical Travelers and a 20 year member of the Community Garden Club of Newburgh. Their son, Gary and (Donna) of NJ, was born in El Paso TX, and her daughters Kristie Weygant, Cathy Earisman and (Scott) of VT were born in Newburgh. She is further survived by 3 grandchildren: Caitlin Stephens and (Jason), Jesse and Misty Earisman; 3 great grandchildren: Gwen, Trevor and Owen and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband. Norma was predeceased by her sisters Evelyn Burger and Marie Cathcart; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Groves. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Dr. Thomas Scileppi and Reverend Stephen Racite. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Friday, February 26, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. Newburgh, NY 12550. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 27, at 10 am at Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, 54 Old Little Britain Rd., Newburgh, NY 12550. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norma’s memory may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550. Replies to this post
