      Roger W Johnston - Class of 1963 A lifelong resident died on March, 2nd 2016. Roger was a retired Lt with the Orange County Sheriffs and a life long friend of mine and many of his friends and brother Police officers.. Obituary to follow..

  - Roger W. Johnston of New Windsor, a lifelong resident of Orange County. entered into rest Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Elant at Fishkill in Beacon, NY. He was 71. The son of the late Lucille Coleman and Hilton W. Johnston, Roger was born June 2, 1944 in Newburgh. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1963. In 1965, Roger joined the Army Reserve National Guard and served until 1971. Roger started his career in law enforcement in 1968 with the City of Newburgh Police Department as a patrolman until February 1971. At that time he joined the Orange County Sheriff's Department. He was employed with the Orange County Sheriff's Department for 25 years until his retirement with the rank of lieutenant in October 1996. During his time with the Sheriff's Department Roger received many accommodations and awards including OC Sheriff's Police Officer of the Year Award in 1990. He was a member of the Elks Club and a member of the New Windsor Republican Committee. Roger is survived by family and friends. Roger's father died 12 days before Roger was born while serving in West Loch Hawaii during WW2. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Roy Coleman and his brother, Hilton Johnston in 2009. There will be no public visitation. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2016, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Corner of Route 94 and Union Ave. in New Windsor.
