Gary Lee Mitchetti, a retired Sergeant for NYS Department of Corrections and a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Saturday, March 5, 2016. He was 68. Son of the late Cosmo J. and Eleanor F. (Vandermark) Mitchetti, he was born May 6, 1947 in Newburgh. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Mitchetti. Gary proudly served his country in the US Army in the 1st Battalion 27th Infantry and 25th Infantry Division from 1964-1967. He belonged to the VFW, VVA, American Legion and Arscme Rep Retirees. Gary was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, friend and neighbor. Gary was a great man, truly one of a kind. All who knew him understood his great sense of humor and truly loved him. Gary enjoyed many things: fishing, golfing, cruises, Thirsty Thursdays, and poker games. But most of he enjoyed his family and friends. We truly had the best! He is survived by his children, Franklin M. Mitchetti Sr. and Deborah J. Mitchetti; siblings, Marty Mitchetti Sr., Jerry Mitchetti, Richard Mitchetti Sr., and Cosmo Mitchetti Jr.; grandchildren, Franklin M. Mitchetti Jr., Alyssa J. Kane, Alexandria J. Kane, Gianna M. Mitchetti; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his son, Gary L. Mitchetti Jr., his brother, Keith Mitchetti, and nephew, Marty Mitchetti Jr. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Thursday, March 10 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A service will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 11 at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. Replies to this post
