Gary R Tunnell - Class of 1963

        Gary R. Tunnell, 71, took his final journey home on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, from Candler Hospital in Savannah with his loving family by his side. Gary was born to the late Jacob Alonzo Tunnell and Carrie Mae Savage on Nov. 5, 1944, in Cornwall, New York. Gary graduated from Newsburg Free Academy and joined the U.S. Navy. After his tour of duty, he attended Orange County Community College. Gary became a police officer with the city of Newburg Police Department. He worked with trouble teens at McQuade Group Home in New Windsor, New York, and worked for Chodikee Security Center (Division of Youth) where he retired. Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Tunnell. Gary is survived by his loving wife, Selena N. Tunnell; one son, Gary Tunnell Jr; one daughter, Kristina Kennedy; one brother, Louis (Bertha) Tunnell; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 Friday, March 25, at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway, 7842 E. Oglethorpe Highway, Midway. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, in the Frank V. Givens Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 25, in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 Highway 301, Glennville.Dorchester Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
