Robert McVeigh - Class of 1950

    Robert McVeigh Sr., 83, a retired electrician of West Point, entered into rest on Sunday, April 17, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong Newburgh resident, the son of the late Joseph and Johanna (Myers) McVeigh, he was born June 26, 1932. Robert leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Catherine "Cap" Neville McVeigh, his sons: Robert McVeigh Jr. and his wife, Margaret, Daniel McVeigh and Michael McVeigh and his wife, Elizabeth, four adored grandchildren; Robert McVeigh III, Patrick McVeigh, Nicole McVeigh and Colleen McVeigh, sister-in-law, Ruth McVeigh and his remaining sibling, Lawrence McVeigh, along with many nieces, nephews and his extended family "THE SUPER DUDES" of Silver Hollow. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph McVeigh and his two sisters; Ruth Copeletti and Dorothy Yerance. An accomplished musician, and music lover, Bob joined the Ambassador and Drum Corps at an early age, and served with multiple other corps throughout his life. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica and regaling his family with tunes. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Black Rock Fish and Game Club for over 50 years. He joined the board of directors in 1963, and co-founded a children's fishing derby to encourage them to learn and enjoy the sport of fishing. He proudly served his country in the Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post #973, as well as a member of the Good Will Fire Department. Visitation for family and friends will take place Wednesday, April 20th from 4 to 7 p.m. at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd. (Route 32) Town of Newburgh. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, April 21st at the Funeral Home with Father Kevin Malick officiating. Burial to follow at the Orange County Veteran's Cemetery in Goshen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Good Will Fire Department or The Town of Newburgh Ambulance Corps.
