Biography
Thomas “Tom” J. Tulve, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Saturday, May 7, 2016. He was 93. Son of the late Thomas and Carmella (Cimorelli) Tulve, he was born June 11, 1922 in Newburgh. He married Mary Louise Ryan on April 29, 1943 in St. Patrick’s Church, Newburgh. Mary predeceased him on June 22, 2005. Tom attended Newburgh schools until he left to proudly serve his country in time of war. He was honored to have received his high school diploma in 2002 under NY State’s Operation Recognition Program at Newburgh Free Academy. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army from 1942-1945 when he was Honorably Discharged, serving as a Technician 5th Grade in Company D 302nd Medical Battalion in the Philippine Islands. He was the recipient of many honors during his service including the Bronze Star Medal. He was employed by Costa Beverages until the company closed and then retired from the Newburgh School District where he was employed as a custodian at the Newburgh Free Library. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh. Dad loved his home and his family. Music was a passion of his and he spent many hours entertaining the residents and staff at Elant playing the harmonica. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Lou Botsford and husband Steven of Myrtle Beach, SC; son-in-law, Harry C. Tompkins of New Windsor; grandchildren, Christopher (Jenna) Botsford, Dena Botsford and fiance Brian Betterton, Kayleigh (Devin) Lipsitz & Thomas Tulve III; great-grandchildren, Alina, Christopher, Sawyer, Miles & Charlotte Botsford; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife Mary, he was predeceased by his son, Thomas J. Tulve, Jr., daughter, Patricia A. Tompkins; eight siblings: James, Nicholas, Ronald, Cora, Mary, Jewel, Jane & Virginia; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10am – 11:30am on Saturday, May 14 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass will be held following the visitation at 12pm in Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, with burial with military honors in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The family would like to thank the staff at New Windsor Country Inn and the staff at Elant at Newburgh for their kind and compassionate care provided to Thomas.
