Richard A. Risio, a beloved teacher, of New York City passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 16, 2014. He was employed as an Art Teacher at City-As-School High School in Manhattan. He passed away while doing what he loved most, preparing an art opening of his students paintings. Richard was a five star rated teacher and his secret to teaching was all about the Love for his students. He also was a talented painter, ceramicist, gardener, and cook. He held a Master of Arts in Art Education, Teachers College Columbia University; Bachelor of Fine Arts, Alfred University; Associate in Applied Science, Agricultural Science/Ornamental Horticulture, SUNY Cobleskill. He had a kind and gentle soul. He always referred to Nature for inspiration. He will be sadly missed by all. Son of Ralph and Louise Risio, he was born on January 21, 1957 in Newburgh, NY. He leaves behind his devoted and loving partner, Carlos N. Molina of New York City. He is survived by his parents and siblings: Katherine Risio-Smith and husband, Thomas J. Smith of West Shokan, Ralph Risio of New Paltz, NY, Mark Risio of Newburgh, NY; sisters: Susan Chesser and husband, Robert, also of Newburgh, Ann Hasbrouck and husband, David of Marlboro. He especially loved his nieces and nephews: Deanna and Gina Pillius, Kayla and Lauren Hasbrouck, Mark, Michael, and Megan Risio, Michael Gagliano and his wife, Gosia of Stanford CT, Kevin Gagliano of Albany, NY; grand nephew and niece: Mateo and Mila Gagliano. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. this Saturday, June 21st 2014 at Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012. www.greenwichvillagefuneralhome.com There will also be a private Mass celebrated for friends and family at Saint Patrick's Church, 55 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY 12550.
