David Emerson Tower passed away on June 3, 2016 in Des Moines, IA. Born October 17, 1920 in Newburgh, NY, David was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy (1938), and Hamilton College (1943). He was a Lieutenant (LTJG) in the Navy and saw active combat in World War II on the USS Marblehead and USS Quincy. After the war, he graduated from Albany Law School of Union University and then practiced law for 49 years. He was active in the leadership of numerous local community organizations including the Newburgh Board of Education, Newburgh Red Cross, Kiwanis Club, Calvary Presbyterian Church, Washington's Headquarters, Powelton Club and the Committee to Elect Eisenhower. David and his wife Irene moved to Des Moines in 2006 and loved Des Moines and the community and friends here. David is survived by his wife, Irene; daughters, Leslie Tower, Jane Tower Gunnison and Joanne Tower Roth (Jonathan); four grandchildren: Matthew Gunnison (Kathryn), Elizabeth Dunn (Andrew), Ian Roth and Alice Roth; three great-grandchildren: Nathaniel Gunnison, James Dunn and Edward Dunn. Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 815 High Street, Des Moines on Thursday, June 9, 2016 (Time Pending).
