Walter Pope Maharay Class of 1940

  In the early morning hours of June 26, 2016, Walter Pope Maharay, 93, left this world for a better one. Born on December 10, 1922 in Newburgh, NY, he was the son of the late Walter V. and Ruth Matthews Maharay. Walt is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris T. Maharay; son, Walter F. Maharay (Carol); granddaughters, Kelly Colwell (Jeremy), Kristy Duenwald (Matt); great grandchildren, Kinsley and Kason Colwell, Avery and Bennett Duenwald; sister, Ethel Nuccitelli, sister-in-law, Jean Trolsen, both of Myrtle Beach; nephews Dan Marsh and Ric Trolsen; and loving supporter and caregiver, Joyce Wilson. He is predeceased by his sister, Louise Sgro and brother William Maharay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Disabled Veterans Association, DAV -Chapter 30, P.O. Box 30637, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588 or Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 30 at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Inurnment will be private with the family at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.
