Robert Alan Grove, Middletown, NY, a retired teacher for the Newburgh Free Academy, died on July 1, 2016 at his home. He was 82. The son of the late Peter and Hannah Erikson Grove, he was born on July 19, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. He received his Masters degree in English from Hofstra University. On August 21, 1965, he married a fellow teacher, Lorraine Haynos in Rockville Center, NY. He was a loving and dedicated father and teacher. Robert is survived by his loving wife Lorraine at home; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Lucille and brother, Richard. Visitation is from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. Memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105. Robert’s wife is forever grateful for the loving and compassionate care given to him by his health care aids, Robin Ellefson, Christine Moran, Amanda Vandermark and Jamie Bandelt as well as the wonderful Hospice nurse’s aide, Amanda Terwilliger and nurses.
