Thomas "Marty" Martin Conroy, a lifelong resident of the area passed away peacefully Saturday, July 16th at Elant Nursing Home in Newburgh at the age of 83. Marty was born on March 21, 1933 to Edmund and Catherine Carmody Conroy. He was born in Goshen. Marty spent his younger years in Montgomery, however he lived the majority of his life in Newburgh. Marty graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1951. He served in the US Navy from 1951-1955. He worked briefly for Ford Motor Co. in Mahwah, NJ. In 1957 Marty began his career at Central Hudson where he worked for the next 38 years and retired as a Chief Yardman. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Marty was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Catherine (Chrystal) Conroy with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of life, laughter, and love. He leaves behind a daughter, Elizabeth, her husband, Joseph Como of New Windsor; two grandchildren, Joseph and Gina; sisters-in-law Dawn Taylor and her husband Robert of Tucson, AZ, Kathy Chrystal of Maybrook, NY, son- in-law's parents and dear friends, Lidia & Joe Como as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Family was the most important thing to Marty. He could always be seen cheering on his grandchildren at soccer games no matter the weather. Marty enjoyed golf with his friends, Ralph and Dobber, tackling his daily crossword puzzle, a good meal with a glass of wine, and gathering with his buddies at McDonalds for morning coffee. Those who knew Marty will miss his kind words, quick wit, and his quiet but very dry sense of humor. He lived his life with grace and humor until the end. Thanks to our family and friends for their prayers and support during the past few difficult months, and to the staff at Elant Meadow Hill who made his last few weeks comfortable. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm. on Wednesday, July 20th at Engel Funeral Home, 5319 Rte 9W (Middlehope) Newburgh, NY. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 22nd at 11 am at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Rte. 52 Newburgh, NY. Interment will be private at the convenience of his family. March 21, 1933 - July 16, 2016
