Kathleen Marie (Terwilliger) Cleveland peacefully passed away surrounded by her 4 adult children on Friday, 26 August 2016. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Robert W. Cleveland and her brother, Ray Terwilliger. She is greatly and lovingly survived by her four children, CathyBeth Cleveland Hooper (Steve), Jeanette Cleveland (Kevin Murphy), Bobette Cleveland Slawson (Mike), and Robert Walter, Jr., (Nadine), eleven grandchildren: Steven Hooper Jr. (Dr. Laura), Dr. Catherine Hooper Miele (Dr. William Miele), Collette Arechavaleta (Richard), Kathleen Murphy, Michael Murphy, Alysse Augustine (Evan), Annette Slawson, Michelle Slawson, Antoinette Cleveland, Reagan Cleveland, and Caitlin Cleveland, and four great grandchildren: Margaret Hooper, Eleanor Hooper, Robert Miele, and Richard Arechavaleta, Jr. In addition, she will be deeply missed by her devoted and very special niece, Diane Terwilliger Black. Kathleen was the second child, only daughter born to Catherine (Cosgrove) and Ray Terwilliger in Newburgh, NY. She earned her Registered Nursing (RN) degree from King's County Hospital where she met her future husband. Kathy and Bob moved to Long Beach in the mid-50s where they worked together to establish Bob's pediatric practice. Kathy supported the medical profession and her husband by her membership and tireless volunteer work with Long Beach Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Las Hermanas and Thrift Shop, Officer's Wives Club, Long Beach Women's Guild, Ability First, and numerous other groups. She was a role model for her children and grandchildren: one of her daughters and grand-daughters entered the nursing profession. Kathleen was most proud of her family, her children, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition, she reserved a special place in her heart for her extended family, especially the children of her much adored older brother, Ray Terwilliger, Jr. She traveled often to visit with family, and in later years, she greatly enjoyed traveling to Europe with her husband. She was a quiet yet friendly lady of intense privacy, loyalty, and kindness, who was also fiercely independent and a woman before her time. As a friend, she was in a class by herself…loyal and loving with an incredible sense to anticipate what you needed. She was the light, love and the quiet strength behind our family and her adoring husband….our heroine and life model. We miss you, Mom, Auntie Sis, Grandma, and Great-Grandma. Although you never complained, we know you missed Dad greatly, and we are comforted in knowing you both are together again. You have left an incredible legacy. A private, family Service will be held on September 17, 2016 at Luyben Dilday Mortuary and interment at gravesite beside her beloved, Bob, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cypress (4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, CA 90630). In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Kathleen M. Cleveland's name to the Ability First of Long Beach, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center: Breast Cancer Center, Las Hermanas or a charity of your choice .
