Mrs. Moretta Margaret Alene Amos; daughter of the late Norwood Burnett Herring and Lula Etta Jacob Herring was born on December 12, 1939 in Clinton, NC, in Sampson County. She attended the public schools of Newburgh, NY and was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy.Margaret worked at Regal Bags and Rockwell Vending Machines, Inc., both in Newburgh, as well as in the family business, Tiny's Deli, located in the City of Newburgh. She eventually found her vocational footing in the Human and Health Services field. She went on to obtain certification in both Home Health as well as Health Service Assistance; providing many years of service to both the Homemakers Services of Orange County, as well as the Hudson Valley Opportunities Industrialization Center.She was united in holy matrimony to the late Cornelius Marion Amos Sr. on August 10, 1958. This union was blessed with six children; Mr. Cornelius Marion Amos Sr. preceded her in death on July 15, 2006. Forever faithful in Jesus Christ, Margaret professed her faith and became a member of the Soul Saving Station Church of God In Christ in Newburgh, NY. She served faithfully in her role as Mother of the Church. Mother Amos Christian life was filled with congregant commitments, service work, street-outreach services and traveling; spreading the Gospel of Christ to the community in which she served. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she grew and loved so well; and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: John Michael (Susan) Amos of Schenectady, NY, Tina Alene (Anthony) Contreras of Newburgh, NY, Terry Leslie (Stephanie) Amos of the Town of Newburgh, NY and Loueverette Lee (Felisha) Amos of New Windsor, NY; 12 grandchildren, as well as 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Bessie Herring Clark of Newburgh, NY, Edith Blue Of Newburgh, NY, Elizabeth (Ronald) Green of Schenectady, NY; brother-in-law, Grady Odom of Pinehurst, NC; sisters-in-law, Golena Amos of Newburgh NY, Irma Ruff of Peekskill, NY; aunt, Elaine Disnuke of Wappingers Falls, NY; devoted family members: Lolita and John O'Brien, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two of her sons: Cornelius Marion Amos Jr. and Rodney Norwood Amos; three sisters: Louise Jacob Dolson, Annie Herring Odom and Angie Lee Herring; one grandson, Jeremy Vaughn Amos and a great-grandson, Jeremy Vaughn Carino Hill. Mrs. Amos will repose from 10 a.m. - 12 Noon on Friday, September 30th, at Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, 1524 Route 300, Newburgh, NY. Service will be held at 12 Noon at the church. Elder Marcus Gill will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
