Francis W. Indzonka, of Walden, NY entered into eternal rest on October 8, 2016 at The New York State Veterans Home, Montrose, NY. He was 89 years old. The son of the late Louis Indzonka and Katherine McCloskey Indzonka, Francis was born on December 14, 1926 in Newburgh, NY. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1944. Francis received an appointment as a second alternate to the United States Military Academy at West Point. While attending the Braden School in Cornwall New York, he was drafted and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from the Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served in the Army of the United States as a Second Lieutenant in the 24th Infantry Division, 19th Infantry Regiment. He participated in the occupation of Japan. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he attended Gettysburg College and went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine in 1954. He maintained an active practice in Newburgh, New York, from the time of his graduation from dental school until May of 2016. He was a member of the New York State Dental Society and the Catholic War Veterans. He served as a past president of the Newburgh Jaycees. He enjoyed sailing, skiing and Army football. He was a member of the Newburgh Yacht Club. A family statement reads: He will be missed greatly. Francis was predeceased by his loving wife, Svea L. Erikson Indzonka in 2013. Francis is survived by his sons, Dr. Peter F. Indzonka, his wife Christine and their son Kevin of Albany, NY, Dr. Mark F. Indzonka, his wife Laura and their children, Jack, Joseph, Larissa, Benjamin and Linnea of Stroudsburg, PA, Erik F. Indzonka, Esq., his wife Michele and their sons Douglas and Andrew of New Windsor, NY; and his sister, Susanne Laurion and her husband Tristan Laurion of Cornwall, NY. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Friday, October 14th at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 15th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Avenue, Newburgh, NY. Interment with Military Honors will follow the Mass at St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor, NY. Arrangements are entrusted to Quigley Bros.
