Anthony Paonessa - Class of 1956

    Anthony “Tony” J. Paonessa, Sr., age 79, of New Paltz, NY, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was born September 4, 1937 in Newburgh, NY and was the son of the late Amedeo and Marie (Rotundo) Paonessa Rhoades. He married Madeline Magliocca on February 25, 1978 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mrs. Paonessa survives at home. Tony was a policeman for 14 years with the Newburgh Police Department and had also been employed by Daniels & West Nissan in Newburgh for 14 years. Most currently he was employed by Local #79, New York City, until his retirement in 2001. Besides his wife, Madeline Paonessa, he is survived by five sons: Anthony Paonessa, Jr., and his wife, Cindy, of Texas, Michael Paonessa and his wife, Denise, of Texas, John Paonessa and his spouse, Michael Rogier, of Florida, Vincent Justino of Poughkeepsie, NY and Thomas Justino and his wife, Noemi, of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren: Jenny, Neil, Meghan, Nathan, Laura, Paul, Kristen, Collin, Damon, Gavin and Olivia; two sisters, Marie Sheehan and her husband, James, of NC and Filomena Jennings and her husband, Ronald, of Newburgh, NY; three great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in New Paltz. He loved scratch-off lottery tickets and crossword puzzles. He especially loved joking around and was famous for saying “I can make anyone laugh!” He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. There will never be another like him and he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 4 – 7 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY 12561. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 32 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, NY, followed by burial at Lloyd Cemetery, Highland, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY 12561.
