Louis “Sonny” Anthony Gerentine, of Palm Coast, Florida and former 65-year resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at home. He was 80. Devoted son of the late Anthony and Mary (D’Egidio) Gerentine, he was born October 12, 1936 in Newburgh, NY. He was married to his loving wife, the late Shirley Ann Vradenburgh, whom he married on December 29, 1957 in St. Patrick’s Church, Newburgh. Lou was a 1955 graduate of NFA and proudly served his country as an Airman in the US Navy. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church where he served as usher, and was a member of the Elks Club and Moose Club. Lou had a lifelong passion for fishing, and lived out his final years near the ocean in Florida. He also enjoyed dancing with our mom. Later in life, Lou spent time painting statues that he would give to family and friends. We were fortunate enough to spend time with him recently as we celebrated his 80th birthday. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his children, Michael Gerentine & wife Patti of Austin, TX, Michelle Pendergast & husband Jim of Cary, NC, and Gina Parrish & husband Jason of Orlando, FL; brothers-in-law David Vradenburgh and his late wife Lucille, and George Vradenburgh and his late wife Pat; grandchildren, Kelly Marie Hurd, Amanda Downey, Kyle Downey, Nicole Gerentine, Gillian Parrish, Kevin Pendergast and Camden Parrish. Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm on Sunday, October 30 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, October 31 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lou’s memory may be sent to the American Heart Association. To send a personal condolence, please visit www.Brooksfh.com or call 845-561-8300.
