Walter A. Carroll Sr. 84 A lifelong area resident, entered into eternal rest
suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday Oct.28, 2016. Walt was born in Newburgh
March 24th, 1932 He was the youngest of 5 children born to the Late John F. and
Orlena A. (Snyder) Carroll. Walt was a 1950 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He
was an Auto Body and Fender man by trade. He was known for his black Lacquer
paint jobs on cars and trucks. Walt started working on cars at the young age of
12. He worked for many body shops in and around the Newburgh area including
Vince's Auto Body in Poughkeepsie, J & S Auto Body in Newburgh, Unionvale Auto
body in Hopewell Junction, Sarinskyls in New Windsor and he also had his own
Body shop called Carroll's Auto body in the 1950's and 60'sthat did body work
for many car dealers in Newburgh. Never one to have just one job at a time he
also worked for Hudson Valley Auto Appraisers. Walt finished his career retiring
from the body shop at West Point Military Academy in the employ of Akima at the
age of 78. Dads passion was restoring vintage autos. He enjoyed going to and
entering his vintage car in many local and far off car shows. For many years you
could find dad driving a 36 Ford Roadster that he had restored for a friend in
the Newburgh Memorial day parades of the 1970s and 1980's. If you needed help
with your car you could always call Walt and he would lend a hand. His Family
was what he lived for and we loved him with all our hearts. We will miss his
extensive knowledge of everything Newburgh from 1940 till today, and all his
great stories of his youthful adventures with his Hot Rod buddies! Walt is
survived by his 4 children: Walter A. Carroll Jr. and his wife Kerin, Susan D.
