Eunice Helen May Byczek, of Newburgh, a lifetime area resident, unexpectedly entered into rest on Friday, October 28, 2016. She was 81. Daughter of the late Jessie and Elizabeth (Preuss) May, she was born on July 14, 1935 in Staten Island, NY. She married her beloved husband, Joseph, on July 27, 1970. Eunice earned a BA in Elementary Education from S.U.N.Y. New Paltz, and spent her career as an early education teacher with the Marlboro School district. She was an avid supporter of both the Marlboro Public Library and the Town of Newburgh Animal Shelter. Eunice was the devoted wife of Joe, and a most beloved Aunt to Kathy May, Christi Dennis and Jenniffer May. Through her career as a kindergarten teacher, she cherished all the students she had the opportunity to teach. Her nieces were grateful to have had her as their own kindergarten teacher. She will be missed deeply. In addition to her husband Joseph, Eunice is survived by her nieces: Kathy May of Phoenix, AZ, Christi (Joseph) Dennis of Newburgh, NY and Jenniffer May of Mahwah, NJ. She is also survived by her great-niece, Jessie Dennis and great-nephew, Jacob Dennis. At Eunice's request, services will be held privately. However, a Celebration of Eunice's life will be held for those wishing to share in her remembrance, which will be announced at a later date. It is Eunice's desire that memorial donations in her name be sent to the Marlboro Public Library, 1251 Route 9W, Marlboro, NY 12542 or http://marlborolibrary.org To send a personal condolence or share a special memory, please visit www.Brooksfh.com or call 845-561-8300. Eunice May Byczek died Friday on October 28, 2016. Town police said they have identified the woman who died in a house fire Friday, on October 28, 2016 at Oak Street in the Middle Hope section of the town as Eunice May Byczek, 81, a retired teacher in the Marlboro School District. Police said Byczek’s body was burned beyond recognition, and Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office personnel accomplished the identification by matching serial numbers on a prosthetic hip that was installed in a recent surgery. The fire occurred at Byczek’s house at 133 Oak St., and she was found dead at the fire scene. Police said relatives described her as a loving aunt. She had no children. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Town of Newburgh police, along with the Town of Newburgh Fire Investigation Unit. Replies to this post
