Daniel D'Elicio - Class of 1949

    Daniel N. D'Elicio - On November 7th, 2016 Daniel “Sonny” D’Elicio, a lifelong Newburgh/New Windsor resident entered into rest at home with his high school Sweet Heart and wife of 64 years, Dolores “Dee” D’Elicio at his side. Daniel was a loving, hardworking family man. He was the co-owner of Newburgh Tile which was established by his father, Anthony D’Elicio. Danny could be seen every morning before work enjoying breakfast at Jimmy’s Restaurant on Broadway. Son of the late Anthony and Mary (Spezzacatena) D’Elicio, he was born May 31, 1931 in Newburgh. On October 26, 1952 he married Dolores Mangi D’Elicio, whom he deeply cherished. Dee survives at home. Danny was a life member of the International Brick Layers and Allied Craft Workers Local #5 NY. He was a skilled tile setter whose work is still on display today in many homes, schools, hospitals and business’ throughout the Hudson Valley. Daniel was a member of St. Francis Church in Newburgh. Daniel will be greatly missed by his family who takes comfort knowing he is at peace. Daniel will always be remembered as the Gentile Man with the Giant Smile! In addition to his wife, Dee, Danny is survived by his five daughters, Dawn D’Elicio of New Windsor, Theresa D’Elicio and her fiancé, John Maher of New Windsor, Bernadette D’Elicio and her fiancé William Lockwood of Pine Bush, Patricia Kennedy of Walden and Daniela Acosta and her husband, Oscar of Washington ,NJ; six grandchildren, Daniel D’Elicio, Andrew Acosta, Devon Acosta and Gabrielle Acosta, Caitlin and Ryan Kennedy; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa D’Elicio and Mason Galando; a sister, Philomena Perry and her husband, John of Florida; a brother, Rocco and Mary Jane D’Elicio of Newburgh; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Mangi of Poughkeepsie and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Danny was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette and Samuel Calvino, brother-in-law, Michael Mangi and his nephews, Anthony and Joseph Calvino and Mark Mangi. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, November 11 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm. Burial with committal prayers will be held at 10 am on Saturday, November 12 at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Danny’s memory may be made to either, Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct, Newburgh, NY 12550 or to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W. Lilburn, GA 30047.
