Alexander George Borella entered into eternal rest on November 9, 2016, in Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was 89 years old. The son of the late Mary Borella and Alexander Borella, Sr., he was born on November 2, 1927, in New York City. "Al," as he was known, by family and friends, graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1947 and Peekskill Business School in 1956. He also attended Orange County Community College. Al was a self-employed bookkeeper. Known for his easygoing personality, Al loved to philosophize about life and celebrated food, especially buffets. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Family and friends were very important to Al. He spent holidays, as well as family celebrations, with them. He is survived by his sister, Lee Murphy, her husband, Horace Murphy of Newburgh; Al's brother, the late Robert Borella and his wife, Patricia Borella of Freeport, Florida; his nieces, Susan M. Cadzow and family; Carol M. Steiler and family; his nephews, Michael Murphy and family; Tony Borella and family. A very special person in Al's life was Thelma Mannese. She, as well as her family, were members of Al's extended family. Visiting hours will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., November 17th at Doulin Newburgh Funeral Home Inc., 318 North Montgomery Street, Newburgh, New York. Immediately following the visitation hour, a graveside service will be held at St. Thomas of Canterbury Cemetery on Mailler Avenue in Cornwall, New York.
