Nancy S. Sangaline Potente - NFA Teacher and Guidance Counselor

    Nancy S. Sangaline Potente of Kingsport, Tenn., a retired Guidance Counselor at Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, N.Y., entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Asbury Health Center, Kingsport, Tenn. Daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Fay) Sangaline, she was born Nov. 21, 1932 in East Kingston, N.Y. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School and St. Ursula Academy in Kingston and completed undergraduate and graduate studies at SUNY, Albany. Nancy was married to Louis J. Potente, Jr., in St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston, N.Y., on Aug. 16, 1958, and lived in Newburgh, N.Y. After retirement from the Newburgh City School District, she and her husband formerly resided in Willsboro, N.Y., and Southport, N.C. She taught at North Junior High School for several years prior to raising her family. When the boys grew a bit and were in school she joined the Faculty at NFA, taught English and History and later spent several years as a student counselor. Nancy was preceded by a brother, Joseph Sangaline and a sister, Mary Sangaline Mills. In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her brother, Charles of Hyde Park, N.Y.; her four children, James and his wife, Leanne of Kingsport, Tenn., Joseph of Bloomington, Ill., David and his wife Amy, of Delano, Minn., and Peter and his wife, Leslie of Flanders N.J. She is also survived by eight grandchildren she loved dearly, Catherine, L. Joseph, and Margaret of Tennessee, Dominic, Anne Marie, Marissa, and Joseph of New Jersey, and Elizabeth of Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2517 N John B. Dennis Hwy, Kingsport, Tenn., 37660, on Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Michael Cummins officiating. The family will hold internment services at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, N.Y., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105 or Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belford Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Fla., 32256.
