Laura Gomes Fayo Borner, of Warwick, NY, passed away on November 22, 2016 at age 87. Daughter of the late Fausto and Pauline Gomes, she was born September 10, 1929 in Newburgh. She was married to the late Joseph John Fayo, Sr. and the late Hans Borner. Laura’s creativity fueled her soul. She cooked, baked, sewed, was PTA Treasurer, Secretary & President, was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. She was forever volunteering, helping others, feeding everyone who came to her home, working part time jobs, and walking her five children to church no matter the weather. Laura was a member of quilting groups where she stitched caps and lap blankets for those living with cancer, and she worked on neighborhood donation funds for many causes including the Heart Association. Laura will be missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family and friends will miss her witty conversation, her laugh, and her smile. She is survived by her children, Faustina Fayo-Abrams and her significant other Glenn Richard Knapp of Newburgh, Joann Fayo-Perry and husband Stephen of Venice, FL, Joseph John Fayo Jr. and wife Patricia of Newburgh, Thomas Paul Fayo and wife Georgia of Dunedin, FL, and Patrick John Fayo Sr. and wife Theresa of Newburgh; her stepdaughter Carole, whom she enjoyed visiting, and her husband Preston and their children Susan and Thomas and their grandchildren; her brother, James Gomes of Wurtsboro, NY; sister, Mary Keller and husband George of Newburgh; grandchildren, Jodi Lee Lewis, Thomas Peter Abrams, Breece Anthony Perry, Jeffrey Van Buren Abrams, Andrea Michelle Martin, Alicia Ann Pucci, Lisa Marie Soper, Joseph Andrew Fayo and Patrick John Fayo Jr.; great-grandchildren Madison Martin, Julianna Lewis, Abigail Martin, LeElena Abrams, Riley Soper, Connor Fayo and Logan Soper; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Joseph and Hans, she was predeceased by her sister, Jeanne Rose Gomes Lord Taylor. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, November 30 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, December 1 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, where Laura was a parishioner. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. Donations in Laura’s memory may be sent to Dementia Society of America, American Heart Association, or Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Replies to this post
