Anthony (Tony) F. Angelo - Class of 1942

    Anthony (Tony) F. Angelo, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, NY. He was 92 years of age. He was born on April 17, 1924 to the late John and Mary (Bedetti) Angelo. At the age of 17, upon hearing of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he left high school before graduating to join the Navy. He served for 4 years as chief cook on a destroyer. When he returned home he worked at Strook’s in Newburgh, NY for 20 years. He then finished his work career at the Newburgh Board of Education (working on the “outside crew”), where he later retired. He loved working with his hands and landscaping, as anyone who knew him and his property would agree. In 2011, his children were able to obtain an honorary high school diploma and presented it to him. Tony is survived by his four loving daughters: Margie Ray and her husband Jim of Newburgh, NY, Tina Angelo and Lori Angelo of Newburgh, NY, and Toni Angelo of Milton, NY; grandchildren; Anthony Colon and his wife Lisa, Etien Ray and his wife Melissa, Tatiana Ray, John Jazwinski, Gabriella Jazwinski, and Zachary Bayon; brothers Alex Angelo and wife Mary Ann and family of Newburgh, NY, John Angelo and family of Newburgh, NY; In-Law Regina Angelo of Newburgh, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tony was predeceased by his parents John and Mary (Bedetti) Angelo; sister-in-law Helen M. Angelo, Aunts and Uncles: Isabel and Jim Rapp, Clara Hudig, Louise Donahue and Peter LeRose. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any Veterans Association of your choice. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, December 13 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 14 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
