  Thomas F. Metzner January 21, 1927-December 11, 2016 Thomas (Tom) F. Metzner, age 89, resident of New Windsor, NY and Ft. Myers Beach, FL died Sunday, December 11, 2016. Tom was bom January 21, 1927 in Glens Falls, NY. He was predeceased by his wife, Sally F. Metzner, parents Jeanette and Herman Metzner and brother Henry. Tom graduated from the State University of New York, Champlain College in 1952, after having served in the US Army in Germany from 1945-46. He devoted his entire career to helping troubled youth in various communities around the state mostly working as an Attendance Teacher with the Newburgh City School District. Tom was a longtime member of Temple Beth Jacob, Newburgh and of the City of Newburgh and Town of New Windsor Optimist Clubs. Tom and his wife Sally were married 53 years and were avid world travelers visiting more than 20 different countries. Additionally they enjoyed many winter vacations in Aruba and loved cheering on the Mets. Tom was very proud of his three daughters and adored his four grandchildren. Tom is survived by his daughters Robin Augello of Baldwinsville, NY, Debbie Metzner of New Windsor, Lauren (Bruce) Jurgens of Littleton, Mass; his grandchildren Nicholas and Stephanie Augello and Cooper and Alivia Jurgens. In addition, he is survived by his nieces, Judy Shephard of Glens Falls, NY, Paula Metzner of Niskayuna, NY and Richard Metzner of Dallas, Texas. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 14 at I lam at Temple Beth Jacob, 290 North Street, Newburgh. The family will sit Shiva at the Metzner residence, I Chimney Corner, New Windsor, immediately following the service on Wednesday and again on Thursday between the hours of 2pm and 8pm, In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Temple Beth Jacob.
