Joseph Kissel "Kal" - Class of 1962

    Joseph K. "Kal" Kissel entered into rest on December 21, 2016 at Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, FL. He was 71 years old. The only son of the late Helen and Joseph Kissel, he was born in Newburgh, NY on March 21, 1945. He was a 1962 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. Upon graduating, he began his career working at Dupont in Newburgh and was a member of the U.S Army Reserves. He eventually moved to Central Hudson, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring in 2003. He was a lifelong member of the NRA and the Hamptonburgh Pheasant Preserve. He was also a member of the Ellenville Elks Lodge #1971, and a founding member of "Coon Hollow". He is survived by his wife, Patricia Riley Kissel, at home; by his two daughters, Nancy Burlew (Kevin) of Newburgh and their children, granddaughters, Meredith and Noelle Hope Burlew and Tara Intartaglia (William) of Bradenton, FL. Additionally, he is survived by three stepchildren: Donna McNally of New York, John Riley of Austin, TX and Peter Riley of Dallas,TX and step-grandchildren: Ryan, Tyler, Peter, Joseph, Kaylyn, Hudson, Brooklyn, Riley and Zoe. He also leaves behind a number of lifelong friends with whom he shared many Coon Hollow moments. Joe is survived by his sister, Wilma Horos of Newburgh. He is predeceased by a sister, Kay Barki.oe was the ultimate outdoor sportsman, an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. His pre-season hunting parties at the cabin were legendary and attended by so many over the years. Joe was a larger than life person, who was the ultimate  entertainer. He was always up for an adventure and a party. He had a love for Black Labradors, especially his two lifelong companions, Hooker and Sam. A Memorial Service will be held in Delray Beach and burying of his ashes in New York will take place in the spring. Further details will be provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's name may be made to The Center for Discovery, PO Box 840, Harris, NY 12742, where his granddaughter, Meredith Burlew, who held a special place in his heart, attends school.
