Pano (Panayotis) Mitchell Constantine, a Mahwah resident for almost 60 years, entered the gates of heaven on December 30, 2016 at the age of 93, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's, congestive heart failure and bladder cancer. Pano was born in Newburgh, NY, the son of Greek immigrants, Olga (Edraeos) and Mitchell John Constantine, both born on the Greek island of Limnos. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1941 and attended Drexel University in Philadelphia until the outbreak of WWII where he became a 1st Lieutenant and B-24 bomber pilot in the CBI Theatre. Over his lifetime Pano enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, and traveling with his wife of 46 years, Virginia "Ginny" (Downie Gifford), who passed in 1993. After moving to Mahwah in 1958, Pano continued his education at night and graduated in 1962 from Newark College of Engineering with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He was General Manager for CELCO (Constantine Engineering Laboratories Co.) for 43 years, working closely with his brothers John (founder) and Peter, until his retirement in 1992. He was a charter member of the Mahwah Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in the Bergen County Republican Club and in 1964 he founded and opened the "Goldwater for President" headquarters in Mahwah. In 1967 he was elected to serve on the Bergen County Committee. Pano is survived by four children, son Mitchell Constantine and daughter Pamella Constantine of Mahwah, and son Peter Constantine and daughter Michelle Buchholz of Oakley, California, seven grandchildren (Corissa, Jessalyn, Tabitha, Lazarus, and Silas Constantine; Kimberly Buchholz and Tara (Thomas) Harold, and three great-grandchildren (Vincent Vaughn, Caylee and Dominic Harold). He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. (John) Angeline Constantine of Mahwah, who just celebrated her 103rd birthday. Pano is also survived by his loving companion of 18 years, Elizabeth "Dolly" Barry of Nyack, NY. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM with a Trisagion Service beginning at 6 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral service will be prayed on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will follow at Mahwah Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Veterans of Oakley, 2063 Main St. # 153, Oakley, CA 94561.
