Susan Agnes Conine Long, 73, passed away Feb. 1, 2017, peacefully at home in St Augustine. Through her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and support of family and friends, she valiantly fought a courageous battle against cancer. She was born Aug. 13, 1943, in Newburgh, New York. She will be missed by her husband of 48 years, William F. Long III, and their three children, Jennifer Stahl (Mike), William Long IV (Jenifer) and Zachary Long. She left behind a legacy of five adoring grandchildren (Zack, Kiley, Daisy, Olivia, and Will). She was predeceased by her mother, Anita Bergen Conine; father, Charles; and eldest brother, Geoffrey. She is also survived by her two youngest brothers, Ricky and Wayne Conine, and nieces and nephews. Susan started her career as an elementary school teacher. She spent over 20 years in the field of chemical dependency and family therapy. She lived her life with a service spirit, whether it was running cancer support groups or 12-step meetings. She was an avid runner and completed her first half marathon at age 69, in Lake George, N.Y. She loved gardening, traveling and mainly spending time with her family. Susan cherished her retirement years enjoying a honeymoon lifestyle with her sweetheart, William, on Anastasia Island. Susan was deeply loved and, by far, the sweetest person with a big heart. Her Irish blue eyes will always be smiling upon us. A memorial mass will take place 9 a.m. Monday Feb. 6, at Saint Anastasia Catholic Church, 5205 A1A South, St. Augustine, FL 32080. If you wish to make donations to her charity of choice in lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
