Geoffrey P. Conine - Class of 1954.
Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 05/Feb/2017 96.248.52.220

Geoffry Paul Conine, Sr. was born in Cornwall on-the-Hudson, New York, on
November 7, 1936, to Charles and Anita Bergen Conine. Jeff is survived by his
wife of 25 years, Jacquelyn, and his three children, Geoffrey P. Conine, Jr.,
Derek W. Conine (Ai Hong), Deirdre M. Walke (Rich); his two granddaughters,
Sydney C. Walke and Jessica R. Walke; and step-daughter, Elaine A. Young
(Brian). Jeff is also survived by his sister, Susan Long (Bill) of St.
Augustine, FL; brothers, Eric Conine (Rosemary) of Moorestown, NJ, and Wayne
Conine (Louise) of Orlando, FL; many nieces and nephews, the children of his
siblings; and many cousins throughout the country. Jeff was preceded in death by
his wife of 26 years, Mildred Rothery Conine, and infant daughter, Lynette; his
parents, Charles and Anita Conine; and his faithful yellow lab, Toffee, who was
such a comfort to him after Millie's passing. Jeff grew up in Newburgh, New
York, attending local schools and excelling in basketball and other sports.
According to Jeff, he had an idyllic childhood spending many hours at Brookside
Park and Pond trapping muskrats and selling the fur. During winter he spent time
at Brookside ice skating and also teaching his siblings to ice skate. He loved
the great outdoors and often said he knew, at an early age, that he wanted to be
a "Forest Ranger." Jeff graduated from Syracuse University, class of 1958. After
graduating, his first assignment with the Forest Service was Susanville,
California. His career was interrupted by a two-year tour in the U.S. Army
where, after training, he was assigned to a missile unit in Germany. After the
Army he returned to California where he spent the rest of his 34 year career. He
was so proud to be a Registered Professional Forester and loved the El Dorado
National Forest and his many co-workers. He knew the district like the back of
his hand-every rock and every drainage. In his time off he loved to garden. His
tomatoes were the envy of the neighbors (he said his secret was calcium tablets
in the soil). He also grew glorious peonies, his favorite flower. Each spring
his garden was beautiful with tulips, daffodils, irises and a myriad of other
flowers. He also liked camping at Caple's Lake, fishing, playing pool and
shuffleboard, and watching hockey. Go Sharks! We shall miss his smile, his
twinkling blue eyes and his loving ways. Jeff was a wonderful husband, a caring
father and grandfather, and a wonderful brother. He loved us all,
unconditionally, and we so loved him. Rest in peace, dear Jeff. Family and
friends are invited to the funeral mass on Friday, December 5, 2014, 11:00 a.m.
at St. Patrick Church, 3109 Sacramento St., Placerville, CA. Please sign the
online guestbook and leave condolences at
