Catherine Kay M. Valleau, of New Windsor, NY, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 24, 2017 at The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence after a long illness. She was 94. The daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (O'Rourke) O'Brien she was born November 6, 1922 in New Windsor. Kay was a lifelong resident of New Windsor and left high school in her senior year to help support her family. She was married to Theodore Valleau by a Justice of the Peace in 1942, a day before he departed for Texas with the United States Army Air Corp. Kay and Ted celebrated 59 wonderful years in a loving marriage. Throughout that time, they enjoyed numerous car trips out west sightseeing and visiting many of our nations parks. During World War II, Kay proudly served her country at Iona Island in Stony Point, NY reloading munitions in support of the war effort. She was employed for over 20 years as an assembly worker at Stanwyck Winding Company in Newburgh. Upon the death of her mother in 1971, Kay became the primary caregiver to her father, Joseph, for 13 years until his death in 1984. Kay was a proud and happy pet owner to her cat, Missy, for many years. She was a terrific cook and baker and the family enjoyed her tasty desserts, especially her chocolate cream pie. We always looked forward to our holiday favorite, Aunt Kays Macaroni and Cheese. The family would like to thank the staff at The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence for their professional care and support during Kays final days. Survivors include her sisters-in-law Patricia O'Brien of New Windsor and Alice Pilus of Newburgh; brother-in-law, Lee Valleau of the state of Florida; nieces and nephews: Catherine O'Brien of New Windsor, Joan Babcock and her husband Edward of Walden, Joseph P. O'Brien, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of New Windsor, Keith Pilus and his wife Kathleen of Wallkill, William Valleau and his wife Daphne of Wallkill, Michelle Visconti of Newburgh, and James Valleau and his wife Licia of Wallkill; as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews who loved her dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore Valleau, brother Joseph O'Brien, brother-in-law William Valleau, and sister-in-law June Eoff. Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Monday, March 27 at St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
