Lucy R. Colandrea Bolognese - Class of 1933

  Lucy R. (Colandrea) Bolognese of Highland, NY (originally from the Newburgh-Wallkill area) left with the angels to go to make her new residence in heaven on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the age of 100. She was the daughter of the late Cosimo and Carmela (Costagliola) Colandrea. She was born August 10, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY. On November 9, 1941 she married her sweetheart the late Frank A. Bolognese, Sr. Lucy was a terrific cook. She was always there when somebody needed her doing whatever she possibly could do to help out. Her family was her life. Her two grandchildren were the apple of her eye and was always there to help with them with great devotion. Lucy loved to garden and had a great love and pride for animals especially for Pi, Fritzie and Jackie. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1933. She always wanted to be a nurse but due to the depression era it was somewhat impossible to achieve her dream. Mom always wanted to reach 100 to be on the Smuckers Jelly jar and that she did in August of 2016. She was employed by Kreskes Department Store down on the Hudson River location and then retired from Suntag Drug Store as a cosmetic sales person located on Broadway, Newburgh , NY. She was also affiliated with Newburgh Steel Products, Inc. on Route 9W, Newburgh. The family would like to extend their thanks and great appreciation to her caregivers Ana and Sharon and Dr. Vladimar Andies. Lucy is survived by her loving son Frank A. Bolognese, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Marlboro, NY granddaughter Kelly Kemp and her husband Paul Kemp of Shrewsbury, MA, great-granddaughters, Danielle Marie and Rachel Nicole Kemp of Shrewsbury, MA. Grandson Patrick Tibby of Deland, FL, great grandsons, Paul Frank & Frank Anthony Tibby of Deland, FL and several nieces & nephews. Family members who are deceased are her precious daughter Phyllis Tibby and her husband Paul Tibby. Louis Colandrea (Bernice), Edward Colandrea (Helen), Rocco Colandrea (Rose), Mary Romano (Pasquale), Rose Zuchowski (Leon), Lena Cassili (Emil). Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 5th from 4pm-8pm at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Thursday morning at 10am at St. Mary's-St. James Church, 1209 Route 9W, Marlboro with Father Thomas Dicks officiating. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Town of Newburgh Animal Shelter, 645 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550 in Lucy's memory.
