Carina Canzoneri Schmidt - After a courageous 12 year battle with sarcoidosis, Carina passed into the Kingdom of Heaven at New York Presbyterian Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends. Carina brightened the lives, and touched the hearts, of all who knew her. Her shining eyes, and warm smile, were shared with all. Carina was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary "Aunt Sid" Canzoneri. Carina was born on September 1st, 1956. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Newburgh Free Academy. After which, she went to work for the IBM Corporation in East Fishkill, where she spent 18 wonderful years as an administrative assistant and met the love of her life Frank Schmidt. She left IBM to be a stay at home mom to her four beautiful babies, Frankie, Joseph, Mimi, and Michael. When the children went off to the Fort Montgomery Elementary School, she joined the staff there as a Teacher's Aide in Marsha Parry's class. After ten years, her illness forced her to retire. It broke her heart to leave the Fort Montgomery Elementary School, where she loved the staff and the children. Carina enjoyed talking on the phone, and posting on social media. She loved her daily Bootsie Riccitelli and Candy Kling calls. In 2013 Carina was the recipient of a lung transplant. This gave her 4 additional years of life. In the end, she became an organ donor. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by: Her loving husband Frank, her children Frankie, Joseph, Mimi, Michael, Toni "Bootsie" Riccitelli, Anthony and Pamela Pacione, Toni Kozlowski, Jessica and Lincoln Morehead, Christopher Denisar Sr., Christopher Denisar Jr., and Maryssa Denisar. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, May 16 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, May 17 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the New York Presbyterian Hospital, to enable Dr. Lori Shah and the great staff on the Lung Transplant team "To make amazing things to happen there." Please consider being an organ donor.
