Mietta was born in Newburgh on October 31, 1919 to Josephine and Boleslaw Dzikowski, who owned Dzikowski's Bakery on Liberty Street. After graduating from Newburgh Free Academy in 1938, Mietta earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from New York University. She then taught home economics in the Newburgh school system, retiring in 1979. Mietta spent most of her retirement years living near and enjoying her family in Chapel Hill, NC and Philadelphia, PA, traveling, and keeping up with old friends; yet, throughout her life, her affection for Newburgh and the Hudson Valley was unwavering. Mietta is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Hale Malenbaum of Chapel Hill, NC and Philadelphia, PA; her grandchildren: Joshua (Emily DeCarlo) Malenbaum, Michael (Kate Auletta) Malenbaum, and Sara (Brian) Kasten; and six great-grandchildren: Jacob, William, Matthew, Benjamin, and Samuel Malenbaum, and Ella Kasten. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Wanda Dzikowski and Bola Mead; and son-in-law, Bruce T. Malenbaum. A graveside memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 20th at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor, NY.
