Carol Minard Bates - Class of 1972

Carol
Minard Bates, the daughter of the late William and Jennie Minard was born on
August 26, 1954, in Newburgh, NY. She was called to her heavenly home to be with
the Lord on June 4, 2017. Carol was married to Charles Bates on May 5, 1989. She
was educated in the Newburgh Enlarged City School System and graduated from
Newburgh Free Academy in 1972, with her LPN diploma in Nursing. Carol attended
Orange County Community College in Middletown, NY graduating in 1974, with an
Associate Degree in Nursing. ” I believed that becoming a nurse was not my
profession of choice, but of calling.” She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital and
Mattawan State Hospital as a nurse before relocating to Maryland. She worked at
Med-Star Washington Hospital Center for the last 38 years, before retiring in
November 2016. Carol was baptized and a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church,
in Newburgh, NY under the late Rev. Burton. She is currently a member of Reid’s
Temple AME Zion Church under Rev. Lee P. Washington, Pastor. Carol loved
reading, trying new recipes, traveling; she loved her many plants inside and
outside and spending time with her family. Carol was a loving wife, mother,
aunt, devoted sister and mentor to many young nurses she has trained over the
years. She leaves to cherish fond memories, her loving husband, Charles; her
sons, Colin Augustus Bates (Jocelyn) and Charles Bates Jr.; one sister, Sharon
Minard; sister-in-law, Marie Bates, brother-in-law, Cleveland Bates (Luppy);
special nieces, Kareema R. Dale (Damian), Kenyatta Cline (Josh) and their
children; godson, Vincent Ricks Jr.; goddaughter, Erin Delee, special devoted
friends, Susie and Vincent Ricks, Louise Coleman, Laverne, Sarah and Amaris..
Thank you to all her coworkers, friends and relatives near and far. Carol was
predeceased by her parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles. Memorial service
for Ms. Minard will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 16 at Reid Temple AME Church, 11400
Glenn Dale Blvd., Glenn Dale, MD, Rev. Lee P. Washington will officiate. Local
arrangements by Rhodes Funeral Home, 259 Walsh Ave., New Windsor, NY
