Ernest McDonald - Class of 1967

Ernest McDonald, 68 of Newburgh, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in
Charleston, SC. The son of the late Harry and Lucy McDonald, he was born in
Newburgh and was educated in Newburgh public schools. He received his BA from
Florida A&M University and later received his Master’s Degree from Mount St.
Mary College. In 1971, he married the love of his life and teenage sweetheart,
Caroline Scott. They went on to have two children and two grandchildren. Mr.
Mac, as he was affectionately known, was employed by the Newburgh Enlarged City
School District as a teacher for over 38 years, and was a faithful member of
Baptist Temple Church in Newburgh. Ernest “Mr. Mac” loved his family, his
friends, his co-workers, his church and his community. He was an advocate for
educating the youth of Newburgh. He mentored and loved many young people in
Newburgh. Ernest leaves behind his wife Caroline, his daughter Ebony Clark
(Randy), his son Erin R. McDonald, two grandsons, Carter Bain McDonald and Randy
K. Clark Jr., all of Newburgh; four siblings, Ann “Louise” McDonald of Newburgh,
Keith and Robert McDonald, both of Tampa, FL, and Jeannette McDonald of
Cuddebackville; his special mother figure, Rosa Lee Brown of Newburgh; and a
host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, aunts, and godchildren. He was predeceased by
his oldest brother Harry “Doug” McDonald and sister Carrie McDonald-Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Monday, June 26 at Brooks Funeral Home,
481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to
the American Cancer Society.
