Jack D. Scott, 77, a long-time Hyde Park resident, died on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie after a long and courageous 17-year battle with cancer. Born on May 18, 1940 in Newburgh, he was the son of the late John A. and Alice (DuBois) Scott. Jack was a graduate of the Newburgh Free Academy. He proudly served in the US Army from 1958 to 1962. A 50-year member of the Operating Engineer's Local #15C, Jack worked as a diesel mechanic for H.O. Penn Machinery Co. in Poughkeepsie for over 40 years. He was a former volunteer with the Fairview Fire Department, and life-member at the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge #275. Jack was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He also loved to spend time at the family camp on Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondacks with his family and friends. On December 27, 1958 in Newburgh, Jack married the former Charlotte A. Rute. Mrs. Scott survives at home in Hyde Park. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his son, Jack Scott, of Hyde Park; daughter, Terri MacBrien, and her husband, Lewis, of Poughkeepsie; son, Tim Scott, and his wife, Susan, of Pleasant Valley; daughter-in-law, Lynda Scott, of Hyde Park; eight grandchildren: Jillian, Lewis, Sarah, Timothy, Taylor, Brandon, Ryan, and Mark; and twelve great-grandchildren (whom he adored). Jack was predeceased by his parents and son, Mark Scott, who passed away in 2014. Calling hours will be from 9 to 11am on Saturday, July 8th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. A funeral service will be held at 10:30am, during the calling hours. Father Michael Morris will be officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park. In lieu of flowers, Jack's family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 (www.stjude.org), or, The Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research & Information, Inc., 1100 Peninsula Blvd., Hewlett, NY 11557 (www.virtualtrials.com/donate.cfm).
