Jack A. Scott - Class of 1958

Jack D. Scott, 77, a long-time Hyde Park resident, died on Wednesday, July 5,
2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie after a long and
courageous 17-year battle with cancer. Born on May 18, 1940 in Newburgh, he was
the son of the late John A. and Alice (DuBois) Scott. Jack was a graduate of the
Newburgh Free Academy. He proudly served in the US Army from 1958 to 1962. A
50-year member of the Operating Engineer's Local #15C, Jack worked as a diesel
mechanic for H.O. Penn Machinery Co. in Poughkeepsie for over 40 years. He was a
former volunteer with the Fairview Fire Department, and life-member at the
Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge #275. Jack was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and
playing golf. He also loved to spend time at the family camp on Sacandaga Lake
in the Adirondacks with his family and friends. On December 27, 1958 in
Newburgh, Jack married the former Charlotte A. Rute. Mrs. Scott survives at home
in Hyde Park. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his son, Jack Scott,
of Hyde Park; daughter, Terri MacBrien, and her husband, Lewis, of Poughkeepsie;
son, Tim Scott, and his wife, Susan, of Pleasant Valley; daughter-in-law, Lynda
Scott, of Hyde Park; eight grandchildren: Jillian, Lewis, Sarah, Timothy,
Taylor, Brandon, Ryan, and Mark; and twelve great-grandchildren (whom he
adored). Jack was predeceased by his parents and son, Mark Scott, who passed
away in 2014. Calling hours will be from 9 to 11am on Saturday, July 8th at
Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. A funeral service will be held at
10:30am, during the calling hours. Father Michael Morris will be officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park. In lieu of
flowers, Jack's family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN
