Thomas "Tom" J. Connelly, 76 of Newburgh, NY, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at home. The son of the late James E. and Mildred (Beers) Connelly, he was born February 3, 1941 in Newburgh. He married his loving wife Lucille (Tarsio) Connelly on September 16, 1966 at St Francis of Assisi Church. Lucille survives at home. Tom was a kind and gentle man who touched the lives of the many students and families he worked with as Vice Principal at Roy C Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls, NY. He later became head of special counseling for the school district and retired in 1996. He continued working as an Educational Consultant and traveled the country helping school districts to implement counseling and safety programs. He loved to fish and above all he was known for his love of gardening and the garlic he grew and shared with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his wife at their waterfront home in Crisfield, Maryland where they ate the local blue crab and enjoyed the sunsets over the Chesapeake Bay. He loved to cook for his family and his fourth of July cook outs will never be forgotten. He passed away peacefully at home. Tom was a 1959 graduate of NFA, obtained a B.S from Dakota Wesleyan, and finished his education with a PhD from Harvard. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Italian Center of Poughkeepsie, NY. Tom also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition to his wife Lucille, he is survived by his children, Dr. James Connelly (Audra) of Camillus, NY, Mary Connelly (Michael) of Port Washington, NY, and Dr. Thomas Connelly Jr. (Katharyn) of Los Angeles, CA; his sister, Linda Riemer (Walter) of Gardiner, NY; his grandchildren, Emily Connelly, Natalie Ezzo, Brittany Wisk of Camillus, NY and Matthew and Daniel Moskowitz of Long Island, NY; great-grandchild Julianna Wisk of Camillus, NY; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, July 8 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
