Rose Pucino Kiviniemi - NFA Class of 1949 - Died December 29, 2016 No obituary at this time. This is the obituary of Rose's Husband Don Kiviniemi that explains much of Rose's life together with Don for 65 years..

Don Kiviniemi age 87 passed away on June 30, 2017 after a battle with melanoma cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Rose Kiviniemi, who passed away on December 29, 2016. Don was a proud ""Yooper"" born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He spent much of his youth in the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his father in the rustic copper country. He was blessed with athletic abilities, playing hockey, football and baseball. Don joined the military and was a paratrooper in the US Army, serving in the pre-Korean war era.

He was awarded an appointment to West Point and after discharge from the military he settled down in Newburgh, New York with his wife Rose. They raised five children – Barbara Jean (New York), Donald (Nebraska), Susan (New York), Lori (North Carolina) and John (North Carolina). Don and Rose were blessed with nine grand children and eight great-grand children. As an avid sportsman Don enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Catskill Mountains of New York.

Don was an accomplished computer programmer – his career spanned nearly fifty years working for ETC, IBM and General Sportswear. The latter brought him to North Carolina, where he and Rose settled in Zebulon, NC. Don was active in Rotary and they were both active members of Saint Eugene's Catholic Church. Both Don and Rose will be missed – their 65 years of marriage exemplified honor and commitment.

Don was Rose's primary caregiver for over seven years as she struggled with health challenges. Over the course of their 65 years of marriage, Don got to enjoy Rose's cooking and baking prowess; she will always be remembered for her inventive and delicious recipes; many of which are venerable family favorites passed down from generation to generation. Both Don and Rose elected to be cremated with no services planned. Interment of their ashes will be in accordance with their wishes made known to the family. Thanks to Carillon Assisted Living of Wake Forest & Transitions Life Care (Hospice) for the steadfast care provided to Don. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Transitions Life Care (Hospice) or the American Cancer Society.
