Barry "Chief" Frederick Marshall, 61, retired in Largo, Florida and a long time resident of New Windsor, NY, entered into rest peacefully at his retirement home in Largo, Florida on Saturday, July 22, 2017. The son of the late Harry and Ann (O'Shaughnessy) Marshall, he was born March 18, 1956 in Newburgh. He married his beloved wife Mary Ann on May 13, 1979 in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh. Mary Ann survives at home.

Barry was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, BOCES Technical Program, NYS Corrections Academy at Harriman, NY, and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for his Army training. Barry held numerous positions throughout his many different organizations over the years. He was a dedicated volunteer to the Town of New Windsor with a heart of gold. All that came in contact with Barry loved him in the end, and loved to hear his stories and words of wisdom. He was a Life member of New Windsor Fire Dept serving as “Fire Chief” twice. In addition to being a 43 year member of the New Windsor Fire Department, he was a member of New Windsor American Legion Post 1796, life member & Board of Director of New Windsor Ambulance Corps, elected Fire Commissioner of Quassaick Bridge Fire District serving 25 years, retiring in 2015, Past President of New Windsor Fire Dept., Past President & Life Member New Windsor Fire Dept Benevolent Association, Past President 2007 & Life Member of Orange County Vol. Firemans Assoc., Past President of Orange County Fire Chiefs Assoc., Past President of Orange County Fire Districts Assoc., Life Member of Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemans Assoc., member of Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemans Assoc. Royal Order of the Red Vest, and social member of Cragsmoor Volunteer Fire Company.

My dad has touched so many lives during his time here with us. I am so very proud to have had him as my father! It's been tough being away from so many of our loved ones from up North. He gave his all and more to the fire service and on the ambulance. He could be a little rough at times, but it kept him safe during his years working at NYSDOCS. He came home to us every day and loved us very much. He provided well for his family. He left behind a loving wife and partner in life that he would never trade for the world. He is missed so much by so many, and leaves many of friends here in this world. Dad enjoyed his life and accomplished so many things, more than we probably will ever know. He's now with some of his best friends Bob "Barney" Brinks & Dave "Looney Tunes" Blaise looking down upon us. He loved his hobbies of fishing, bowling, snow plowing, gardening, days of snowmobiling, playing on his four wheeler, watching NASCAR and of course his beloved NY Mets! There is still too much to cherish about this loving man….We will all miss his “when I was chief” stories and his “put it in the books” comments.

Survivors include wife & life partner, Mary Ann (Comicz) Marshall; daughter Dawn Marie Marshall, of Madeira Beach, Florida; twin brother Glenn Thomas Marshall of New Windsor, NY, many cousins, other children: Maria (Vignogna) Grace, Joseph Reardon, Ashley (Evans) & Thomas Shoemaker, children that he loved dearly from the moment they entered into his life like they were his own; and his loving companion dog KerriBean that was there for him as his little protector. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his grandparents Nicholas and Maria Marshall, Uncle Tony & Rita Marshall, Aunts & Uncles: Charles & Agnes Marshall, William & Blanche Marshall, Nicholas C. & Marie Marshall, Theresa & Richard Hunter, Dorothy & Joseph De Feo, Lena & Joseph DiGregorio, and several cousins.
