Francis McCormack - Class of 1941

      Francis McCormack, age 95, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, August 4, 2017. Francis was born in Newburgh, NY and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy High School, where he excelled as a member of the varsity football, basketball and baseball teams. He then served his country from 1941-1945 honorably during WWII in the United States Navy on the USS Santa Fe (CL-60) in the Pacific Theatre. He remained aboard the USS Santa Fe from June 1942 through August 1945. Fran was employed by Dupont as a machinist for many years. In retirement he worked as a self-employed mason. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, vacationing at Long Beach Island, NJ and spending time with his family. Fran was predeceased by his wife of 65 years Virginia McCormack, his brother Donald, sister Margaret and his loving daughter Maureen Eadry. He is survived by his son Chris McCormack of Newburgh, NY, granddaughter Erin Rubano of Wilmington, DE, grandson Ryan Eadry of Davis, CA, and great grandchildren Ava, Mack, and Lila of Wilmington, DE. Francis's family would like to express their gratitude to Kentmere Rehab Facility, Seasons Hospice and Wilmington Hospital step-down ICU unit for providing excellence in care and support. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806. Interment will be held in Newburgh, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kentmere Rehabilitation Center, 1900 Lovering Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
