Our families were neighbors of mine on upper Bush Avenue in the late Thirties, and when banks and others need positive ID, they frequently ask me to name my earliest best friend, the answer I type in is "Bobby"...for Bob. I hadn't seen him for more than half a Century after 1949 until I remet him at a Reunion in Newburgh several years ago, and we were both (I think) delighted on that occasion. When we were little kids once upon a time, and I began to cry when a thunderstorm was approaching the Colonial Terraces, he told me, "Don't worry, kiddo, it's just that the fairies is bowlin' " We laughed a lot about that when we saw each other after all of those years. His Dad, Jimmy was the Wood Shop teacher at NFA back then and was in the Navy during WWOne, as was Bob's brother Jimmy, Jr., in WWTwo, so the Naval tradition in his family was indeed strong. I'll miss him down here but I'm sure we'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when. May he be Resting In Peace. Replies to this post No replies yet |
