John Joseph Riccio - Class of January 1939

    John Joseph Riccio, 97 of Burlington MA, formerly of Newburgh, entered into rest on Saturday, December 2, 2017. The son of the late Giuseppe and Elizabeth (D'Onofrio) Riccio, he was born March 27, 1920 in Newburgh. He was married to the late Filomena (Sansevieri) Riccio, who predeceased him in 2002. John was a 1939 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and a Veteran of WWII and Korean War. He served as a Tactical Field Radio Operator in the Army serving in France and Germany during WWII and in Korea with the Navy during the Korean war. John retired at age 80 from Newburgh Enlarged City School District in Facility Maintenance, and was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. John loved bowling and baseball playing on Company teams in Newburgh. He was an avid sports fan with his favorite teams being the New York Yankees and the New York Jets. Another passion of his was ballroom dancing. He taught his four daughters how to dance the cha cha and the waltz. John loved being surrounded by all his family. Survivors include his children, Jennie Manzano of Newburgh NY, Barbara McGrath of Tewksbury MA, and Jo Ann Woodward of Hollister, CA; grandchildren John Carey, Gina Peavey, Alicia Page, April Shipman, Mary Katherine McNiece, Lia Previti and John Michael McGrath; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Filomena, he was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Riccio Previti, his sister Filomena, and brothers, Vincent, Charles and Albert. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. A service will be held at 11 am on Friday at Brooks Funeral Home, with burial following in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
