William J. Fatt, lovingly known as Bill to his friends and Uncle Bill to his family, gained his wings on December 5, 2017. Born April 2, 1948, he was the middle brother of three boys. The oldest, Harry and youngest, Dennis. Bill attended Newburgh Free Academy. After high school, he worked at various supermarkets in various positions and was a former driver/clerk for Hudson Valley News. He joined Vails Gate Fire Department in the early 1970’s where he held many hats including captain. He was devoted to the fire department and enjoyed his time as an active fireman. His family will forever remember the stories of the “big fires” and shenanigans with his brothers, who also were firemen. Bill was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. Uncle Bill loved his family and adored his great nieces, great nephew, and nephew. He was the children’s human jungle gym. From the moment they saw him, one or all four would pile on his lap. He loved every second of it! His family will miss marathons of the “Three Stooges” and “The Honeymooners”, card games, hearing him sing a Rolling Stones tune, stories-he had many stories…phone calls with wrestling news, his laugh and the Annual Thanksgiving battle of who is the better sports team. Uncle Bill was a die-hard New York Jets fan and rooted for the New York Mets. The family would like to thank Vanessa Cantaloupe for her devoted friendship to Uncle Bill. He would often speak of their card games, talks and walks with Vanessa’s dog, Tucker. The family would also like to thank the nursing staff of Vassar Brother’s ICU and step down unit for their vigilant care and compassion over the past couple of weeks. Not all names can remembered, but their kindness, gentle caring and late night/early morning updates were appreciated. Survivors include his beloved friend , Vanessa Cantaloupe and his buddy, “Tucker”; brother, Harry Fatt of Newburgh, NY and his wife, Cheryl (Hogan) Fatt; one nephew, Michael Fatt and his wife, Hope Conley of New Windsor; three great nieces Kayla Anne, Emma Rose and Allison Jade Fatt of New Windsor; a great-nephew, Aiden Robert Fatt. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Dennis Fatt. Services will be held privately.
