George J. Vecchio Jr. of the Town of Newburgh, a retired welder for the City of Newburgh Water Department entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 13, 2017. He was 64. The son of Julia M. (Bertero) Vecchio and the late George J. Vecchio Sr., George was born October 1, 1953 in Newburgh. George loved metal detecting and enjoyed collecting antiques. In addition to his mother, Julia Vecchio of New Windsor, George is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Maria Strano-Vecchio at home; son, Aaron Ferguson and his wife, Theresa of Middletown, sisters: Carol Brown and husband, David of Virginia Beach, VA, Marie Rapkoch and husband, James of Colorado and Julia Lare and husband, Don of Newburgh; grandchildren; Joshua and Nicholas; as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will take place Tuesday, December 19th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at White, Venuto & Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Rd., (Route 32) Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 20th, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Ave., Newburgh. A private cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory. Interment of cremains will take place in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery at a time convenience to the family.
