Kemper J. Mazzarelli - Class of 1955

            Mr. Kemper Jackson Mazzarelli, age 80, died Wednesday morning January 3, 2018, at Willow Pond Senior Living Community under the care SouthernCare Hospice. The Cornwall, New York native lived in Newburgh, NY and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the Blimp Squadron in Key West, Florida. Kemper was a semi-pro baseball player for many years, and was affiliated with the New York Yankees and played many times at Yankee Field. His baseball career moved him to Florida where he eventually began a 32 year career with Lockheed Martin Aerospace & Defense Company, retiring in 1995. He married Joyce Darran in 1977 and the two lived for many years in Rockledge, FL. Following his retirement, Kemper and Joyce purchased an RV and the two traveled the United States until five years ago, when they moved to Davenport, Fl. In September of 2017, they relocated to Statesboro and became residence of Willow Pond Senior Living Community. Kemper loved computers and he and Joyce also loved renovating homes and property. He was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Joyce Darran Mazzarelli of Statesboro; two daughters, Christine Hopkins of Swainsboro and Denise Skriba of Easley, SC; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be Saturday at 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro with Pastor Doug Weisel officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service. A private burial will be held at Bulloch Memorial Gardens in Statesboro. Friends may sign the online register book at www.joineranderson.com.
