Charles W. Earley (Charlie), a lifelong resident of the area, entered into rest at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, March 8, 2018. He was 86. Son of the late Charles and Marion (Schaffer) Earley, he was born in Port Washington, Long Island, on May 5, 1931. Charles was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy Class of 1950. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1950-1954. Charles married Bernice Newsome and together they raised their family. They were married for 65 years. Charles retired as a Manager from IBM. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Our Dad was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He was so loved by all of us. His life has been dedicated to his family, his faith, his country, and his love for his many friends. He has been described by all of them in the many calls, emails, and notes that we have received as a true gentleman and a very caring man. He's remembered by our children, nieces and nephews as the man who took control of Christmas Eve, leading us all into song. We loved him so much and were proud to call him ours. Much of his time was spent in the garden, tending the plants and flowers or watching the myriad of birds landing on the feeders and birdbaths. Born: May 5, 1931 Place of Birth: Port Washington, NY - Death: March 8, 2018 And when it was time to get away, a beach retreat always fit the bill. With Charles it was always the right time of day to talk about boating and seamanship. However, and most importantly, it was the time he spent with his wife Bernice that truly brought him joy, whether that time was spent eating lunch on the river watching the ships set sail, or simply quiet time on the couch reading a good book. Nothing was more important than family. The world lost one of the many great gentleman today. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Bernice; his sons Wayne and his wife Stephanie of Middlehope, Bruce and his wife Mary also of Middlehope; his grandchildren Bruce Earley Jr. and his wife Danielle of Lebanon, TN, David Earley and his wife Meghan of Mooresville, NC, Christine Cunningham, of Clifton Park, NY and Scott Earley of Middlehope; great-grandchildren Matthew Earley, Alexis Lopez, Emma Earley, Lilly Earley, Riley Earley, Hudson Earley, Caleb Cunningham and Mason Earley; and his niece Susan Ferrara. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Joan Ferrara and her son Joey Ferrara. Visitation will be held from 2-5PM, Sunday, March 11 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. Newburgh, NY. A Funeral Service will take place at 10AM, on Monday March 12, at the funeral Home, with Pastor John Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties at www.hospiceoforange.com Replies to this post |
