Mary Grace Cerone Loparco - Class of 1944

  Mary Grace Cerone Loparco, 91, of Greenwich, passed away in Greenwich on March 16, 2018, after a long illness.Mrs. Loparco was born on March 15, 1927, in Newburgh, New York, to the late Antonio and Maria (Petrocelli) Cerone. Mrs. Loparco attended public schools in Newburgh, graduating in 1944 from Newburgh Free Academy. After graduation, Mrs. Loparco worked for Dr. A. Stuart Ferguson, a prominent Newburgh cardiologist. Upon her marriage to Samuel J. Loparco of Greenwich on October 10, 1948, Mrs. Loparco relocated to the Chickahominy section of Greenwich, raising four sons and handling the administrative work for her husband's excavation business, and remained in Greenwich for her remaining years. Mrs. Loparco was a member of the Hamilton Avenue School PTA, including a term as President. In 1967, Mrs. Loparco joined the Greenwich Housing Authority and remained for nearly 12 years, rising to the position of Executive Director for the last two and a half years of her employment. After retirement from the Authority, Mrs. Loparco obtained her real estate license, and worked many years for local realtor Katie Favor and Associates. Mrs. Loparco was the primary caregiver for the final ten years of her husband's life, up to his passing in October 2001. Mrs. Loparco's retirement years included many volunteer activities, among them literacy assistance for new citizens of the United States, and the knitting of supportive garments for Greenwich Hospital oncology patients. Mrs. Loparco was a longtime member of St. Roch Church and was a frequent volunteer at the church's annual bazaar. Mrs. Loparco was also a longstanding member of Tamarack Country Club. Mrs. Loparco is survived by her four sons: Joseph (Susan), of Charlotte, North Carolina, Robert (Silvia), also of Charlotte, David (Leonor) of Riverside, Connecticut, and Mark (Elissa) of Simi Valley, California. Mrs. Loparco is also survived by her six grandchildren: Francesca, Brianna, Alexander, Christopher, Emma, and Sophia and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. One of nine children, Mrs. Loparco was predeceased by brothers Anthony, Patrick, Samuel, Frank, and Michael, and Sisters Rose Risucci, Madeline Loparco, and Anne Woodruff. Mrs. Loparco spent the final four and a half years of her life as a resident of The Nathaniel Witherell, where the caring staff of the Camelot unit fulfilled her every need. The family extends its deep appreciation to the entire staff of Nathaniel Witherell, especially Dr. Allison Ostroff, Jayne Kennelly, Nurse Manager of the Camelot unit, and to Josseline Senoble, who was Mrs. Loparco's "extra-special" guardian angel in her final years. Calling hours for Mrs. Loparco will be on Monday, March 26, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3, in Greenwich, immediately followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass for Christian Burial at St. Roch Church, 10 St. Roch Avenue, Greenwich. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mrs. Loparco's memory to The Nathaniel Witherell, 70 Parsonage Road, Greenwich, CT 06830.
