Robert J.
Wilson, Jr., of Milford, CT, died at 83 years old on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at
Milford Hospital surrounded by his three children. Mr. Wilson was born on
December 7, 1934, in Newburgh, New York, the son of the late Robert John and
Margaret Elizabeth (Jackson) Wilson. He moved with his family to Wilmington, DE
in 1949 and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1952. In 1956, he
graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. degree in Chemistry. While
in college, he drew weekly cartoons for The Review student newspaper and was a
member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He began his career as a chemist near
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with the Koppers Corporation and ultimately later
worked in Texas and New Jersey as a bench chemist. In 1959, he joined the Army
and served active duty at Fort Knox in Kentucky that year and was discharged
from the reserves in 1966. After 1959, he primarily worked in public relations
and communications in the chemical, steel and technical fields in New York City
and the surrounding area. He married his wife, Catherine M. Farrell, in 1967,
and lived in Greenwich, CT from 1973 until 1998 where he raised his three
children. Mr. Wilson was involved in a variety of community activities in
Greenwich/Riverside CT including serving as head little league coach for OGRCC
baseball for three seasons (winning one league championship), contributing his
artwork to various programs, and volunteering for numerous activities for his
children. In 2006, he and his wife moved to Beaufort, South Carolina where he
was active in the Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the
local historical society. They resided in South Carolina until his wife's death
in May of 2017. Over the years, Mr. Wilson contributed his writings to various
publications (particularly in Newburgh, NY and Delaware) including the Delaware
History journal and was also quoted in a William Safire book. He was known as a
friendly, generous and helpful person. People who knew him universally liked
him. He was an accomplished artist in having his artwork in numerous
publications. Despite being an octogenarian, he was well versed in the internet
and connected with his old friends and distant family and shared historical and
genealogical information where he became the repository of knowledge for family
genealogical information for many people throughout the world. He also had a
good sense of humor and when he was erroneously reported as deceased a few
months ago by his university alumni magazine, he did not take offense – and
instead he participated in a humorous article based upon that mistake.
Surviving are two sons: Christopher Wilson (Christine) of Harrisburg, PA, and
John Wilson (Erin) of Old Greenwich; one daughter: Abby Sparks (Jamie) of
Milford, CT; three granddaughters: Caitlin Wilson, Mackensey Wilson and Morgan
Wilson; three nephews: Jeffrey, Peter and Gregory Flemming; a niece: Lisa
Flemming; and six grand-nephews and two grand-nieces, and one great-grant nephew
and one great-grand niece. He was predeceased by his parents and his older

J. Wilson, Jr.'s life will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St.
