Walter Paul Renker - Class of 1942

      Walter P. Renker, lifelong resident of Newburgh, NY, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Christian Health Care Heritage Manor Nursing facility in Wyckoff, NJ under the extraordinary care of Valley Health Hospice program of Valley Health Systems. He was 94 years old. Son of the late Walter P. and Nellie V. Renker, he was born on August 28, 1923 in Newburgh NY. Walter was employed at Texaco Research Labs in Beacon, NY for 35 years from which he retired in 1982. His Mother, Father, sister Betty Renker Cozine and her husband Charles, and longtime friend and companion Jean St. John predeceased him. Survivors include two Nephews; Charles Deuel Cozine and children Alison and Robert of Highlands Ranch, CO. James Renker Cozine, his wife Laura, and children Rebecca and Michael of Oakland NJ and his niece Elizabeth Renker Cozine Moese, her husband Mark and children Libby and Kevin of Oakland, NJ. In addition to contributing something meaningful or inspirational to the lives of everyone that were privileged to know him, Walter was a proud member of the American Legion for 70 years. He served in the 4025th Signal Service Group of the U. S. Army during the 2nd World War in the Pacific Theater of operations. Predominantly in New Guinea and the Southern Philippine Islands and was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Sergeant on January 24, 1946. During his tour, he earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday April 11, 2018 9:30 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 25 Purdue Ave, Oakland, NJ 07436 and then burial with his mother and father at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, NY.
