Irma Ruth Scott Nesbitt - Class of 1941

  Irma Ruth Scott Nesbitt, 94 of Ellenville, NY died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Golden Hill Health Care Center in Kingston. Irma was born November 5, 1923 in Newburgh, NY; she was the daughter of the late William and Tillie Scott. In her early years, Irma worked as a teletype operator for Western Union in Newburgh and during World War II for the Army Air Corps in Arizona. Later she worked in Ellenville as a switchboard operator for the local phone company at that time. She also worked as a switchboard operator at the Nevele Country Club and finished up her working life as a bank teller for the Ellenville Savings Bank. In retirement, Irma and her husband Wilk, would travel the country going to WWII submarine veterans reunions and visit her fellow Rosie the Riveter girlfriends in Arizona. Irma was a member of the Wawarsing Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of New York State. She was also a member of the Ellenville Reformed Church. Irma is survived by her three sons: Scott and his wife, Ursela of Galway, Thomas of Ellenville and his companion, Gail Hornbeck of Woodbourne, Theodore and his wife, Judy of Canton, GA; her brothers, Jack Scott of Aiea, HI, James Scott of Deerfield Beach, FL; her grandsons: Sean Nesbitt, Troy Bilyeu and Adam Bilyeu; five great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilkin Nesbitt; brothers, William Scott, Robert Scott and sister, Bernice McQuiston. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. There will be no visitation or service.
