Stephen Felix Mulleavy - Class of 1983

Stephen Felix Mulleavy, 53, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Tuesday, April
10, 2018, at Sentara Hospice House, surrounded by family following a lengthy
battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1965, in Cornwall, New York, son of
the late John Michael Mulleavy and the late Rita Margarita (Gabler) Mulleavy. He
graduated in 1983 from Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, NY. He was presently a
Senior Test Engineer at Leonardo DRS, Inc. Stephen retired from the military in
2004 after serving 23 faithful years in the United States Navy as a Fire
Controlman Senior Chief (Surface Warfare). He joined the Navy in July 1983
attending Recruit Training Command in Orlando, FL with follow on training in
Great Lakes, IL. Stephen served onboard USS ARKANSAS (CGN 41), USS NICHOLSON (DD
982) and USS CARON (DD 970). He was also stationed at Service School Command,
Great Lakes, IL; Afloat Training Group, Norfolk, VA and Commander Amphibious
Group TWO, Little Creek, VA. His military awards include two Navy Commendation
Medals and two Navy Achievement Medals. Stephen is survived by his wife of 12
years Gail (Waite) Mulleavy, two sons – Matthew and Kendal (finance Rachel)
Mulleavy and step son Collin Clifton all of Virginia Beach. One brother Robert
(Barbara) Mulleavy of New Windsor, NY and his twin sister Stephanie (Charles)
Plantamura of Newburgh, NY. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Jean (and
the late Bill) Waite of Corfu, NY; brothers-in-law Larry Waite of Summerfield,
FL; Scott (Robin) Waite of Corfu, NY; sisters-in-law Patti (and the late Joe)
Nicosia and Peggy (Patrick) Weissend both of Corfu, NY. Several nieces and
nephews also survive him. Friends and relatives may join us in a Celebration of
Life on Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 6pm to 8pm at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral
Home, Princess Anne Chapel, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. Charitable
contributions may be made in Stephen's memory to the Cholangiocarcinoma
